The Red Baron (2009) DVD
This 2008 German film is a somewhat fanciful biopic of the legendary Manfred von Richthofen (1892-1918), who became the most successful fighter ace of World War I, with 80 confirmed victories. The Baron was by all accounts an aristocrat with a chivalric view of warfare, who used his hunting skills in aerial combat. The film received a tepid response in Germany, where it was perceived as glorifying war heroes, but it actually portrays the Baron as becoming more ambivalent about war as losses mount. While much of the film depicts actual events, there are some completely fictitious sequences.
