The Mighty Hood (1959, 1977) By Ernle Bradford
Since her launch in 1918 the HMS Hood was the pride of the British Navy, the largest vessel afloat. Too late to be involved in WW1, she cruised the world between the wars and in 1939 was refitted and joined the Home Fleet. In 1940 she was the mainstay of Force H in the Mediterranean, then returning to Scapa Flow when, in company with Prince of Wales, she set out on her final voyage in May, 1941 to intercept the Bismarck.
