The Biography of Erin Rommel (1984) By Ward Rutherford
General) Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel, also known as the "Desert Fox", was perhaps the most famous German Field Marshal of World War II. He commanded the Deutsches Afrikakorps and became known for the skillful military campaigns he waged in North Africa. He was later in command of the German forces opposing the Allied Normandy invasion. His fortunes changed when he was suspected of involvement in the failed July 20 Plot of 1944 to kill Hitler and was forced to commit suicide by the SS.
