The book is profusely illustrated with black and white photographic illustrations of events during the Second World War from the Australian War Memorial. The author was in the all-Australian RAAF Number 10 Squadron as a gunner during the Second World War and based this collection of poems on his experiences during the war. It was broadcast on radio in the early 1980s and is a powerful anti-war sequence of poems strengthened by many photographs from the Australian War Memorial.
