When U-boat successes threaten defeat for Britain, the C-in-C Bomber Command orders Wing Commander Johnny Manston DFC and Bar to form a new squadron to destroy a factory manufacturing essential parts for the U-boats. The raid has to prove a new, secret four-engined bomber as well as destroy a target situated at the head of a narrow valley, requiring exceptional flying skill and daring. The strain puts Johnny's nerves under severe tension. If he breaks, will the raid be jeopardised and the threat to Britain remain?
