Randwick to Hargicourt: History of the 3rd Battalion A.I.F. (1935) By Capt. Eric Wren

A stylishly written and well presented account of one of Australia’s most celebrated 1st AIF units. It was raised at Randwick (NSW) in August 1914 and landed in Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. After the bitter fighting at Lone Pine and the subsequent evacuation, the Battalion was moved to the Western Front in 1916. There it fought in several great battles of the period- Pozieres, Bullecourt, Ypres, Passchendaele, and the Hindenburg Line. Throughout the narrative there are notes and comments regarding Battalion personalities, officers’ postings in and out, and acts of individual heroism. The maps complement the narrative well, and the pictures are clearly annotated. A prime source for the researcher.

Appendices, unit nominal roll (with details of fatal casualties), Honours and awards(with many entries accompanied by a photograph of the recipient), and notes on Battle Honours complete this history.

A very rare book and one that includes a letter gifting the book from Colin Blumen to Roy McDonald who both served in the Battalion according to the letter.
